Position Overview

The Staff Accountant is a key contributor in a fast‑paced, growing organization. This role is responsible for completing daily accounting tasks requiring a basic level of accounting knowledge across a variety of responsibilities. This role will work closely with Accounts Payable functions, providing hands-on support to ensure timely and accurate vendor payments and reconciliations. The Staff Accountant is responsible for (but not limited to) monthly journal entries, account reconciliations and g/l variance analysis.

The role is hands‑on and well‑suited for a detail‑oriented professional who thrives in a small to mid‑sized business environment and is comfortable wearing multiple hats.

**This role is on-site in Highland Park, IL five days a week**

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Execute accurate and timely reporting during the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Process a high volume of vendor bills while keeping vendor records up to date.
  • Review monthly employee expense reports in accordance with company policy
  • Support external audits and provide requested schedules and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies in a growing environment.
  • Perform special projects and other accounting duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting or finance
  • 2-3 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a small to mid‑sized company
  • Experience in wholesale, retail, distribution, or inventory‑driven environments strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and general ledger accounting
  • Experience with month‑end close and account reconciliations
  • ERP system experience required (NetSuite or similar preferred)
  • Intermediate Excel skills required (pivot tables, lookups)
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Salary and How to Apply

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position in IL is $65,000 – $75,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus subject to company performance and other factors.
